You will want to make sure that the fireplace is cool. Avoid making a fire 24 to 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. You may want to empty the firebox of cooled ash to distribute in your garden before your visit.
Clear out any logs from the firebox. The chimney sweep will remove ash if left behind. Put all fireplace tools away. Remove your grate as well.
Remove any decorations that may be in the way of the fireplace. Secure all valuables so they don’t get broken. Better be safe than sorry.
Your pet may be the friendliest and most loved, but it is best to remove your pet from the house or contain him in another room in the house. Your pet roaming around can get dust on him or inhale it. It is safest for all to keep any free-roaming pets away from the technician.
